whisperings

September 30, 2008 at 9:47 am (mischief)

It’s always easier in the dark to speak of things that matter and those that don’t so much … except when added up, weighed and measured on the scale against the purity of a soul.

Update: That was supposed to be a promo for a project that has since crashed and burned quite spectacularly at the last minute.  I do like the line and intend to use it elsewhere.

lavender

September 23, 2008 at 12:11 pm (mischief, morningside) (, , )

Strange… the last thing I wrote last night was about the soothing, calming effects of lavender and then I had a nightmare.  All the trams were diverted but I had to get somewhere and deliberately ignored the two car thieves on the left – so I was heading up the street – which was a very good move on my part becase whatever they were doing to the car produced a hissing sound and a vapour … three cars down, the same thing … I was halfway across the road when both cars exploded, and the rest parallel parked did too.

The destructive streak continues.

boom

September 21, 2008 at 1:24 pm (mischief, morningside, writing) (, , )

Catfights and explosions have been my writing lot lately… no idea where this destructive streak came from but I was thinking it was time for something lighter, perhaps romantic comedy, except nothing from my Hot File seemed to click.  Until Isolde raised a small clawed hand.

Okay, she is the (tiny greenish) poster child for destruction.  May as well stick with the theme.  And while I’m figuring out where I left off, I can figure out if that hint of flirtation is going to become something stronger now that Arty has removed Issy’s previous good-time-in-Cuba.

On the Hurray! news: looks like I have 2 contracts in my inbox.

On the what-the? news: the big dim sim.  I saw a billboard promoting a 12metre high viewing platform shaped like a big dim sim coming soon to Sth Melbourne’s main street.  Why???  The street’s just upgraded, yet they’re going for a “big” thing so far beyond tacky into whatever comes next.

Wished

With Wishful Thinking done but for the tidying, what am I going to work on next?

At the moment my open files include Reverie from the Morningside and as I have a delicious cover for the latest installment that’s probably floating at the top of the list.  The second Angel volume is fizzing in the background with a lovely title: Night of the Long Spoons.  And I left the Kincaid twins having a chat with an agent-gone-bad and one of their favourite foes.  Oh, yes, the Katri were still up to mischief too.

Bah.

Maybe I’ll wash the windows instead.

Ruby

September 14, 2008 at 1:05 pm (Pandora's Edge, morningside) (, )

From belly jewel to tooth adornment, the ruby is such a versatile gem!  It also features in Better Part of Wisdom, the ebook out later this month, and I hadn’t noticed how beset by rubies I’ve been lately.  Possibly because I hadn’t planned to open up the Wishful Thinking file.  I thought it was bigger; it will be once I’ve filled in all the gaps like the one between the missing heart and the lettuces, then the one before the heart turns up in the fridge… on a bread&butter plate that used to belong to my great aunt.  More exciting, I know how the ghost fits.  I also know Thorne isn’t going to take that very well as she’s still in denial about the paranormal, especially ghostly witnesses.

hoodoo

What happens when a bobble-headed doll is given to a ship’s sentience with attitude?  Carmen by remote.  Yes, her owners left her alone for so long she got bored and experimented with technomancy… now she can join the poker game in the cantina.

That scene arrived Saturday and looks like it will fall two-thirds of the way through the sequel to Indigo Dancer.  Tentative title: Nightshine featuring Coven the Katran Hunter and Ilisha Mordreaux last seen firing upon my Katri renegades.

I spy

Across a ballroom, the vampire and the astrologer, but wait … that’s the Carnivale crew … and isn’t that JJ Jube?  Okay, that places this story in the Morningside world.

Interesting.
