Aware

Sometimes there’s no turning back once you’ve started down that road so you’d better have a good map, or at least a gounding in finding your way. Growing up in Pandora’s Edge under the protective wing of Alec Rivers and Milady Web means Holly H & Zac Kincaid, Javra, Cash, Lee Dervani, Amanda & Tiffany Lawrence, Eden Munrowe and Diego Sateeva have that ability … eventually. Mind you, they have to pay for the experience through encounters with rogue socks, an animated skeleton with attitude, inflatable mermaids, griffins and Wild West Rules. Oh, and it costs them a friend.

heart breaking

November 28, 2008 at 1:26 pm (Pandora's Edge, writing) (, )

Sabre gave an exaggerated sigh. “No, you idiotic creatures, I didn’t open up her chest and pull her heart out with my bare hands. I was tempted, but no. Can you imagine the mess I’d have to clean up then? It’s tricky getting bloodstains out; you can’t just wish them away. Problem was, she’d already cried herself to a shadow, and once her heart was gone and she’d lost the ability to cry, she stayed a shadow. And stubbornly refuses to fade away. Women,” the fey grumbled. “Never can figure out what they want. Respect, sovereignty, chocolate, Mel Gibson…”

Always the Sun

Song of the month. I know it’s going to turn up in a story soon, maybe Whistling or Wayward or somewhere within NLS.

bargain hunting

November 23, 2008 at 4:30 pm (writing) (, , , )

Found an intro to the 4th part of an old project I’m reviving:

Bargains, pacts, accords, promises, treaties, Agreements – in Pandora’s Edge, once you’ve signed on the dotted line, given your word or sealed it with a kiss, the deed is done.

You’ve made a deal.

Congratulations.

The trouble is, sometimes keeping to the original terms becomes… difficult.

You can look for loopholes all you want; that’s cool. You might even be able to get away with reinterpreting the wording. But break the intention, deliberately ignore the treaty, and you have a problem.

Sometimes, the solution’s name is Urchin.

Otherwise known as Holly H, Zac, Cash, Diego, Lee, Javra, Amanda and Tiffany.

Oh yes, when the weird gets weirder, the Urchins hunt down some Bargains of their own.

gather

November 22, 2008 at 8:44 pm (Pandora's Edge, mischief) ()

As impulse buys go, a dinner set is extremely impulsive for me. I mean, it matches. I don’t own anything else that matches. Except socks. And wineglasses. And cutlery but even that’s missing a few pieces and anyway I inherited that.

A dinner set… It’s alarmingly grown up.

Good thing I’ve spent all day with my favourite set of teenage hoodlums to make up for it. Hol, Zac, Diego and co’s first volume is tidied and submitted. I’m slightly unhappy that I had a flash of regret about killing Miss Moss in the intersecting story arc. For a moment there I really liked her and I haven’t for about six years. Oh, well. She has to go to make way for Thistle and all that beautiful relationship angst brewing between her and Rivers.

Volume 2 tomorrow, drinking black raspberry tea out of new cups. White with gold stars - maybe that’s not so very adult.

hunt

“Is it gory? If it’s not gory and gut ripping I don’t read it,” said the little old lady with the magenta hair and the striking eye shadow in the op shop last night as she examined the book I’d rummaged from the shelves.

collide with mars

November 20, 2008 at 9:01 am (mischief) (, )

A day is coming…

I’ve been thinking of planes lately and regretting – again – that all the desirable destinations flickering through my mind are at least over an hour flight time away, and most into the double digits.  Maybe I won’t be getting that passport soon, especially when the ariport scanners make me take my boots off just to get to the departure lounge… which brings me to the key thought:

When will the wearing of bras be banned on planes?

We’ve all seen those movies when the spy/heroine acticates the camera in her bra or turns it into a climbing aid… or pulls out the boning to pick a lock, slices a throat with the underwire, strangles someone with the straps… yeah, I can see the day when air travel security ‘experts’ ban the wearing of bras.  I can also see what happens when the plane hits a patch of turbulence, all those women knocking themselves out.

Coffee time.

give in…

…I’m irresistible, you fool

As a mantra, I’m not convinced it will work. I’m going to give it a go in the hope my writing sparkle comes back.

I do have a few characters wandering about, behaving oddly, perhaps even badly, though given Mora’s boots she can’t be all bad.  She has grabbed that name depsite my best efforts to change it to something not starting with M.

Bet she’d approve of the mantra!
