When Fur Flies

With just the smallest encouragement you can find someone willing to sell you anything, that’s the beauty and the beast of border towns. Meeting a man about a cat may be more of a bite than even a Katarr warrior can chew

Rewrites, erk. Always made harder by wondering if I’m weighing the thing down with too much description and ending up with a … with a… cold golden syrup dumpling instead of a minestrone, rich and warm in both flavour and variety. Mind you, I quite like cold dumplings. But not as much as minestrone.  And it’s also harder to find joy in rewrites when there’s an F111 diving about above the backyard -

Found him! It’s terrible to know there are six Sharpe siblings and to not know all their names. Or it was terrible until ”linsey-wolsey” practically jumped off the page at me and I knew it was his name, the 4th child/3rd son.

Cord, Velvet, Lincoln, Linsey, Flax, Dimity… all very Sharpe. Read the rest of this entry »

dizzy dancing the tango

Finally realised the link I need to spark the third act of the Wish sequence from Pandora’s Edge. I’ve wanted a third for a very long time but thought I’d tied up all the loose ends in Wishful Thinking (which was due for publication later this month but I just couldn’t let it go… and that’s a much longer story) until mocha plus Shakira’s Laundry Service on the iPod this morning got me thinking about photos. tremulous

I was right. That was an earth tremor 8.56pm yesterday… in all the years I’ve lived here with the trams thundering past the street door, the place has never shook that much. Which makes this a very impressive week: bushfires, rain enough to comment on, gale force winds, snow in the high country, and an earth tremor. Oh, and a long weekend.

Enjoy.

love me, fear me

do as I say and I will… realise that’s not the movie of the week. What I do have this week is much glee as Semaphore’s March issue is out with another glam cover, a chance to read Bombshell, and be able to vote for its inclusion in the print annual.

I love this magazine.

wannabe

March 3, 2009 at 10:31 am (mischief) (, )

Boarding the 7.30 tram is always problematic due to schoolgirls and because it tends to be one of the newer designs where the tram people though ripping out half the seats was a good idea. This morning I also had the misfortune to share my seat with a wannabe alpha male. Such a tragic species! This specimen had all the characteristics: the iPod too loud, the hoody and the hat, and most of all he had… the spread. Yes, his knees were wide apart, taking up more space than deserved. And if I had redder hair I may have put on my glasses, leant across, peered down and commented on his not requiring so much space.
