projections
The end of October is in sight and I’m not ready. I want to cling to the days, cuddle them close on the couch in the sun with the teapot close and the pile of books closer. But no. The Project List refuses to settle. It kinda looks like this:
- Night of the Long Spoons
- Reverie
- Improbability Theory
- Nightshine
- RM: Served Cold
and the hmmm, nice or argh, don’t want to think about that yet section:
- Sweet Treat
- Rex
- Spite the Goddess (novel)
- WH2 (novel)
- SLOL: Season of Henchmen
NLS is going to be a long one and I may end up splitting it into 2 volumes … which still wouldn’t include that story featuring Dimity Sharpe. Sorry, Al. But it does have a Complete By Christmas tag.
Wished
With Wishful Thinking done but for the tidying, what am I going to work on next?
At the moment my open files include Reverie from the Morningside and as I have a delicious cover for the latest installment that’s probably floating at the top of the list. The second Angel volume is fizzing in the background with a lovely title: Night of the Long Spoons. And I left the Kincaid twins having a chat with an agent-gone-bad and one of their favourite foes. Oh, yes, the Katri were still up to mischief too.
Bah.
Maybe I’ll wash the windows instead.
clawfoot
Imagine my rueful amusement when I realised I have a signature: bathroom scenes. I didn’t notice until the first cautious edits of Welcome Home a few months ago when I started with … well, can’t spoil it … but it reminded me I had Wolf Hollow Episode 24 and the bathroom was the probable crime scene in Wishbone. So if I really do have this signature scene how was it going to work with Angel? I mean, wings are complicated. Wait a minute… didn’t I have an entire bath house? I did. Hurray.
And now will a bath scene turn up in the current space opera? If a mongoose, Turkish Delight and bobble-head dolls can, a bath seems all too likely.
I’d just like a clawfoot tub to turn up in my physical world.
incanto
One brief spark of the Oh My variety lit up my Thursday but unfortunately not enough to lure me back into the Siren’s Gate storyline. In Episode 12 things go very wrong for Angel; now I know it’s connected to the Violetta Incanto, the book she agreed to obtain for Robert Winter despite the fact it probably doesn’t exist..
The Phoenix File
AKA Angel Episode 10 is now complete. It grew a lot more than I expected, finishing around the 14500 mark. By the time my lovely test readers demand this bit gets expanded and that bit doesn’t quite make sense… maybe 15000.
There are vampires at last, Librarians, a killer plant, champagne truffles, a bit of betrayal, fireworks, a hint of romance to come and a swordfight. Yes, exit a character, which is going to have so many ramifications in the next volume.
wardrobe confusion
Next time a new character turns up I’m going to ignore her until she proves she doesn’t have wardrobe impeding appendages like Sherlock with her tail and Angel’s wings.
Halo
They make a ringing noise when you drop them.
As a Dark angel, my Angel of Siren’s Gate doesn’t have a halo and at the moment she doesn’t have a home either. She’s adrift due to the closure of the site housing her series. It’s a temporary situation. I have A Plan.
my lady of the lotus
Also known as In Bloom or the 4th Siren’s Gate epsiode although I scribbled the notes for it earlier. I think it began because I knew Rhone was going to turn up later and while scribbling notes for him “harem” as in he’d inspire them appeared. That, plus an ongoing exchange at work regarding the dancing boys failing to appear, combined with a few snippets from Al’s commentary, became a story where Angel has to rescue an arts/gossip columnist from captivity. Some captivity! Yet for some reason Lady Lotus doesn’t appreciate being serenaded by a trio of hula hooping champions.
Like most of my characters, she’ll be back later; there’s a romantic subplot to untangle except her wannabe captor is as yet nameless.
